
Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon (born on the 22nd of March 1976) is an American actress. She has been the recipient of numerous awards such as an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award as well as a Primetime Emmy Award, and two Golden Globe Awards, she is consistently among the top-paid actresses in the world. Time magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world in the years 2006 and 2015 and Forbes included her in the World's 100 Most Powerful Women in the years 2019 and 2021. Forbes listed her as the world's wealthiest actress in 2021. She has an estimated income of $400 million. Witherspoon made her screen debut in The Man in the Moon (1991). In 1999, she was an actress who played a supporting role in Cruel Intentions and also in the role of Tracy Flick in Election. Her roles in Legally Blonde (2001 and its sequel 2003) as well as in Sweet Home Alabama (2002 ) brought her greater recognition. She received acclaim from critics and received the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role as June Carter Cash, in the musical biopic Walk the Line. Following a slump in her career, during which Water for Elephants (2011) was her only box-office success, Witherspoon decided to make an appearance and produced and act in Cheryl Strayed, the drama Wild (2014). This earned her a second Academy Award nomination in the category of Best Actress. She has continued to perform predominantly in television and has produced and starred in many female-led adaptations of books under Hello Sunshine. They include Big Little Lies (2017-2018), The Morning Show (2019-20) as well as Little Fires Everywhere (2020) All HBO dramas. The first she received the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Limited Series. She produced the adaptations to film of Gone Girl (2014) as and Where the Crawdads Sing (1922). Witherspoon also owns Draper James, a clothing business and is involved in advocacy groups for children and women. She is on the Children's Defense Fund's Board and was honoured to be the chairperson of the Avon Foundation's foundation's charitable cause for women in 2007.
